We drove south from Overton, along the North Shore of what remains of Lake Mead to get to the Hoover Dam and on into Arizona.
The road near Overton is getting a needed upgrade but the 40 miles of driving closest to Las Vegas and Hoover Dam are great with lots of stopping points (most of these seem to have been selected by engineers, not photographers) and spectacular scenery.
Hoover Dam was flooded with tourists and featured security checks from both directions. They appear to be building a marvellous new bridge to take through traffic away from the dam itself.

Lake Mead sits above the Hoover Dam. It's not 'dry', but it must be getting pretty close! If it has 35% of the water it once had I'd be surprised. This has all the appearances of a calamity waiting to happen. Pray for rain ... several years of it across the whole Colorado River Basin.
